Film Music Lesson 7

Composing project using a structure.

Today we will move on to the next chapter of Film Music.

This half term you are embarking on a bigger project - composing the musical score to short films.

This will require your previous knowledge of:

  1. The recipe for a good melody.

  2. How music can be used within film to enhance the drama.

  3. The musical elements structure and texture.

Take a moment to recap these three areas.

Your teacher will have given some class feedback for your 'How to Train Your Dragon' leitmotif compositions. Take notice of the feedback you receive, it will help you in your next task!

TASK 1: Read the post below

TASK 2: Watch the short film and carefully consider how you can create musical ideas to enhance the drama of the film. Remember, you can adjust the timings to fit your sections of music into your underscore - you are the composer!

Consider the Musical Elements (MAD T SHIRTS) with your teacher.

TASK 3: Start with Pym's Leitmotif.

Carefully plan and begin to create a letimotif for the character, Pym.

You only need to do this today and you do not need to finish it.

EXTRA BITS AND BOBS!

A note about composing

You will need to split your screen with the video below and Bandlab Edu, Songmaker or your piano keyboard.

*If you cannot do this - make a note of the section timings, watch the scene then work away from the video for a while.
